Harold W. Heikkinen, age 88 of Aura, MI passed away Saturday, March 7, 2015 at D.J. Jacobetti Home for Veterans in Marquette, Michigan. He was born in Aura on December 22, 1926 the son of the late Antti and Anna (Hietila) Heikkine Read Obituary
Harold and I grew up in Aura. He was nine years older than I. When I was about five, Harold appeared to me as a really big guy. In that era there was an ice rink alongside the Aura Hall and everybody skated counterclockwise--except a few small kids like me who were playing tag. Harold was skating backwards, unaware of activity behind him--I skated into his backside and promptly ended up on my keester. Harold picked me up and inquired if I was ok? I was. He then admonished me that everyone should skate counterclokwise. He was a great youth then, and a great guy all his life!

Harold was my Boss from 11-23-1977 to 12-31-1988. As a 18 yr. old Deputy Sheriff starting under him he taught me a Great Amount about Law Enforcement. As a person he was a kind, fair and a very good friend to talk to about anything. He taught me a lot about Life, Fishing, Hunting, car repair, gardening, etc. I could go on and on.
It was a Warm Family Atmosphere when Harold, Sarah and Family lived at the Jail next to the Courthouse. Drinking coffee and talking with all of them at their Kitchen Table was a Great Time and Fond Memory. Also Harold would ride along on numerous Transports to surrounding County Jails with us. Lots of time to talk together during that.

Harold will be missed. I have such fond memories of him and his family, visiting them at the "jail", getting my driver's license from him and him congratulating me for my driving abilities, knowing full well that I had been driving for a couple of years without one. Heikkinen brothers were always welcome at our coffee table in Aura.
