HELEN A. ERICKSON's Obituary
HELEN A. ERICKSON, 85, of L’Anse passed away Saturday, November 4, 2006 at Baraga County Memorial Hospital following a lengthy illness. She was born in Nisula, MI. on April 14, 1921 daughter of the late Otto and Myrtle (Horning) Heikkila. Helen attended school in Nisula and Alston. She married Hjalmer Erickson in Hancock on August 10, 1938. He preceded her in death in June of 1996. Helen worked as a nurse’s aide and activities director at Baraga County Memorial Hospital for 20 years. She was a member of United Lutheran Church, Ojibwa Senior Citizens, and the L’Anse Eagles Club #2287. Helen enjoyed quilting, reading, and crafting, and making clothing alterations.
Mrs. Erickson is survived by her loving children, William “Bill” (Jane) Erickson of La Mesa, CA., Ethel (Ray) Vizina of Baraga, Aileen (Tom) Barker of Lewiston, MI. and Betty Ann (Barry) Barker of Brunswick, OH., 14 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild, and sister, Nelda Serle of Burt, MI. Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. She was preceded in death by 5 brothers and 2 sisters.
Funeral services for Mrs. Erickson were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, November 7, 2006 at United Lutheran Church, L’Anse with Pastor Scott Williams officiating. Interment took place in the Pelkie Cemetery. Family members honored her as casket bearers. The family received friends on Monday, November 6, 2006 from 6 until 8 p.m. at the Reid Funeral Service and Chapel, L’Anse and 1 hour prior to the service at church on Tuesday. The Reid Funeral Service and Chapel, L’Anse has been entrusted with arrangements.
