Helen S Hill's Obituary
Helen S. Hill, age 85, of Covington, passed away Monday, December 7, 2015 after a brief illness. She was under the loving care of her family and Lake Superior Hospice at UP Health System, Marquette. Helen was born in Watton, Michigan on February 12, 1930, the daughter of the late William and Martha (Ranta) Saarinen. She was married to Charles Hill on October 24, 1950. They made their home in Covington where they raised two daughters, Cheryl and Judy. She was a lifelong resident of Covington. Helen had been employed as a nurse’s aide at the former Winkler’s Nursing Home in L’Anse until her retirement. During her lifetime she enjoyed reading, doing crossword and jigsaw puzzles and loved playing Scrabble. Helen participated in events at the Multi-Purpose Building in Covington and took advantage of the senior citizen bus trips to Marquette.
Helen is survived by her loving daughters, Cheryl Hill of Davison, Michigan and Judith (Donald) Poupore of Negaunee, grandchildren Todd Hutula of Southfield, Jill (Michael) Fraeyman of Chesterfield, Angela (Travis) Reamer of Negaunee and Ryan (Kristi) Poupore of Ishpeming, several great grandchildren, brother William Saarinen of Wisconsin, sister-in-law Lillian Kuusisto of Covington, brother-in-law Rudy Tahtinen of Pelkie. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Charles and her six sisters, Julia Eskel, Edla Franti, Martha Aalto, Elsie Rajala, Ellen Tahtinen and Elma Saarinen.
Spring interment will be held in the Covington Cemetery.
