HELMI A. LUOPA's Obituary
HELMI A. LUOPA, 93, of L’Anse, MI. passed away Thursday, July 22, 2004 at Bayside Village where she had been a resident for 2 years. She was born in Pelkie, MI. on June 15, 1911 daughter of the late Sakari and Susanna (Pikkumaki) Eskola. Helmi attended school in Pelkie. She was employed by Chrysler Motor Company in Detroit, MI. as a line worker. Helmi married Oscar Koski in 1928. In 1945 she married Lennie Luopa. Mrs. Luopa returned from Detroit to Lake Linden and had been a resident of the area for 28 years. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting and was skillful at doing crafts. She loved cats including one that she had for over 17 years.
Mrs. Luopa is survived by her sons, Glenn (Patricia) Koski of Kalispell, Montana, Donald (Elaine) Koski of Lakebluff, IL., daughter, Nancy (Oiva) Harju of Golden, CO., 12 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and sister, Eleanor (Vincent) Mangiapane of CA. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her sons, Roy Koski and Walter “Butch” Koski, and sisters, Eileen Saari, Ida Eskola, Aune Hadley Robert, Lempi Eskola, Susanna Eskola and Senia Eskola.
Funeral services for Mrs. Luopa were held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, July 29, 2004 from the Reid Funeral Service and Chapel, L’Anse with Pastor Scott Williams officiating. Interment took place in the L’Anse Evergreen Cemetery. The family received friends on Wednesday, July 28, 2004 from 6 until 8 p.m. at the Reid Funeral Service and Chapel, L’Anse and 1 hour prior to the service on Thursday. Following the service on Thursday, the family invited friends to join them for fellowship and luncheon in the Harrington Gathering room located at the funeral home.
