HOMER D. ELMBLAD's Obituary
HOMER D. ELMBLAD, 85, of Iowa City, IA. and summer resident of L’Anse passed away Monday, December 29, 2003 in the loving arms of his daughter. He was born in Skanee, MI. on August 2, 1918 son of the late Danford and Anne (Peterson) Elmblad. Homer graduated from Skanee School in 1937. On November 25, 1939 he married the former Grace McIntyre in L’Anse. She preceded him in death in 1990. Homer was employed by the Village of L’Anse as supervisor for the L’Anse Waste Treatment Plant until his retirement. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Skanee and was a member of the State Municipal, employees union. He was fond of the outdoors and operating his bulldozer and heavy equipment. He also enjoyed visiting his children and their families.
Mr. Elmblad is survived by his children, Carol (Robert) Nieboer of Kalispell, MT., Homer R. (Maria) Elmblad of Mesa, AZ., and Lynn (Dick) Kubit of Iowa City, IA. 7 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, brothers, Theodore (Marie) Elmblad of L’Anse, Clyde (Alyce) Elmblad of L’Anse, sisters, Francis (Kermit) Henkes of South Dakota, Bernice Borgen of L’Anse, Rita (Doug) Brennen of L’Anse and numerous nieces and nephews He was preceded in death by sister Lou Sirard, brother Ray Elmblad and grandson Jeremy Kubit.
A memorial service for Mr. Elmblad was held at 4:00 p.m. Saturday, May 15, 2004 at the Reid Funeral Service and Chapel, L’Anse. Judy Mattson officiated. The family greeted friends from 3:00 p.m. until time of the service. Following the service, friends were invited to join the family for fellowship and luncheon in the Harrington Gathering room located at the funeral home.
