ILENE V. KOKKO's Obituary
ILENE V. KOKKO, 82 , of L’Anse, passed away Monday, January 16, 2006 at Westside Residential Care in L’Anse, where she had been a resident for the past 2 years. She was born in Chicago, IL. on February 15, 1923 daughter of the late Joseph and Grace (Holtz) Moravek. Ilene attended school in Chicago. She served as a WAVE in the US Navy. Ilene married Paul Kokko in Hancock, MI. on August 23, 1945. He preceded her in death in June, 1996. She enjoyed working crossword puzzles and reading.
Mrs. Kokko is survived by her sisters, Barbara (Robert) Lorey of Streeter, IL, Nancy (Kenneth) Theis of Santa Monica, CA., and Marge (Wayne) Johnston of Kankakee, IL, step-sister, Louise Vertanen of Keweenaw Bay, sister-in-law, Elizabeth (Edward) Holzman of Baraga, and niece, Shirley (Harlan) Tollefson of L’Anse. Numerous additional nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services for Mrs. Kokko were held at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, January 19, 2006 at the Reid Funeral Service and Chapel, L’Anse with Judy Mattson officiating. Spring interment will take place in the Keweenaw Bay Cemetery. The family received friends at the funeral chapel on Thursday evening from 7 p.m. until time of the service. The Reid Funeral Service and chapel, L’Anse has been entrusted with arrangements.
