Irvin J. Smith's Obituary
Irvin Jay Smith II, 76 of L’Anse, formerly of Baraga MI passed away April 24, 2015 after a lengthy illness at Bayside Village, L’Anse with his loving family by his side. Irvin was born May 31, 1938 in Royal Oak, MI. He attended schools in Madison Heights, MI. Irvin then went on to work for General Motors in the Detroit area, and retired after 33 years. He moved to the area in 2000. Irvin was a former member of the Madison Heights Eagles. He enjoyed boat rides, playing pool, pinochle games, horseracing, cars, and spending time with his grandchildren.
Preceded in death by his parents, Irvin Sr. and Amelia (Holmes) Smith, sister Leona Burke of Weaver, Alabama.
Survived by his loving wife Doreen Smith of Baraga, sister Nancy Steenbergh of Royal Oak, MI, sons Dwayne (Pam) of Baraga, Richard (Connie) of Gaastra, MI, Irvin (Gina) Smith of Baraga, Jake of Baraga, daughters Cathy, and Caroline of Madison Hts., MI, Edie (Dennis) Hansinger of Clawson, MI, Christy (Kevin) Krawczyk of Livonia, MI, and Serene Smith of Baraga, 15 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service was held at 1 p.m. Monday, April 27, 2015 at the Reid Funeral Service and Chapel, L’Anse. With Pastor John Henry officiating. The family greeted friends at the funeral chapel on Monday from 11 a.m. until the time of the funeral service. Interment took place in the L’Anse Evergreen Cemetery.
