ISABELLE C. HEIKKINEN's Obituary
ISABELLE C. HEIKKINEN, 87, of Pequaming, MI, passed away unexpectedly Sunday, July 27, 2008 at her residence. She was born in Pequaming, MI. on April 1, 1921 the daughter of the late Walter and Mildred (Pettersen) DesLaurier. Isabelle attended school in Pequaming and L'Anse and graduated from Pequaming High School in 1938. She then attended Secretarial School. On October 12, 1946 she married Carlo Heikkinen. Isabelle worked at the L'Anse Court House, DNR, assistant manager at Aura Twp. and was secretary at MSU Extension Service until her retirement. Isabele enjyed spending time with family and friends, homemaking, cooking, and visiting on the telephone with special friends, Her great grandchildren called her “Candy Grandma” as she gave them special treats. Carlo said his dear Isabelle was his loving partner and the pretty girl from Pequaming he married 61 years ago. She and Carlo loved to dance and she often remarked that she had the honor of dancing with Henry Ford.
Mrs. Heikkinen is survived by her loving husband, Carlo, children, Robert (Tammy) Heikkinen of Pequaming, and Barbara (Len) Anthos of Marquette, grandchildren, Thomas (Kaylie) Anthos of Marquette, Anna (Brian) Griffith of Dexter, MI., Tony (Helen) Anthos of Los Angles, CA. , Jennifer (Chris) Davidson of Hancock, and Todd (Krystal) Heikkinen of Ishpeming, great grandchildren, Greyson, Isabelle, Harrison Anthos, Thomas (Nora) Griffith, and Keegan Davidson, sister-in-laws, Martha Heikkinen, Sarah Heikkinen, Ellen Corey, Barbara DesLaurier, and brother-in-law, Harold Heikkinen. She was preceded in death by her brother, Walter.
Funeral service for Mrs. Heikkinen were held at 12 noon Thursday, July 31, 2008 at the Reid Funeral Service and Chapel, L'Anse with Pastor Scott Williams officiating. Interment will take place in the L'Anse Evergreen Cemetery. The family received friends at the funeral chapel on Thursday from 11 a.m. until time of the service. Following the services, the family invited friends to join them for fellowship and a luncheon in the Harrington Gathering room, located at the funeral home. In honor of Mrs. Heikkinen memory the family suggests memorials to the L'Anse Public Library for children's books.
