ISABELLE M. CHOSA's Obituary
ISABELLE M. CHOSA, 92, of L’Anse, passed away Sunday morning January 9, 2011 at Bayside Village, L’Anse. She was born in Odena, Wisconsin on September 6, 1918 the daughter of the late Thomas and Mary (Monguse) Shalifoe. Isabelle attended school at St. Joseph School in Assinins. She married Eugene Chosa in Assinins in 1935. He preceded her in death. Isabelle had worked as a Nurses Aide at Baraga County Memorial Hospital retiring after 17 years of service. She was a member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church, Baraga the Keweenaw Bay Indian Community and the Ojibwa Senior Citizens Center, Baraga. Isabelle enjoyed crocheting, sewing, volunteering, ministering to the sick, working in the kitchen at the Ojibwa Senior Citizens Center, watching television and going to the casino.
Mrs. Chosa is survived by her loving children Thomas (Flo) Chosa of Baraga, James (Faith) Chosa of Yellowtail, MT., William (Patti) Chosa of Covington, Donald (Clara) Chosa of Baraga, Henry (Nancy) Chosa of Baraga, Anita Chosa of Baraga, Arlene (Alan) Robinson on Baraga, Carol-Jean (George) O'Hare of Baraga, Brenda Welsh of Baraga, and Cecelia Dowd of Baraga, 28 grandchildren, 61 great grandchildren plus an expected arrival soon, and sister Florence Uusitalo of L’Anse. Numerous nieces, nephews and other family members also survive. She was preceded in death by 4 brothers, 3 sisters, a daughter and a son.
A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated at 11 am Thursday, January 13, 2011 from St. Ann’s Catholic Church, Baraga with Father Brian Gerber, celebrant. The family received friends on Wednesday, January 12, 2011 from 6 until 8 p.m. at the Reid Funeral Service and Chapel, L’Anse and at the church on Thursday from 10 am until the time of the Mass. A parish rosary was recited at the funeral chapel on Wednesday evening at 7:30 pm. Following the Mass on Thursday, the family invited friends to join them for fellowship and a luncheon at the Ojibwa Senior Citizens Center, Baraga. Spring interment will take place in the Assinins Cemetery.
