JACOB E. KUIVINEN's Obituary
JACOB E. “ED” KUIVINEN, 96, of Pelkie passed away Sunday, September 13, 2009 at Bayside Village, L'Anse following a lengthy illness. He was born in Calumet, MI. on January 8, 1913 the son of the late Jacob and Katherine (Ranta) Kuivinen. Ed attended school in Pelkie. On May 27, 1944 he married the former Elma Leinonen in Detroit, MI. She preceded him in death in 1987. Ed owned and operated a dairy farm, worked in the woods and was a sub mail carrier in the Pelkie and Arnheim area. He was a member of Grace Free Lutheran Church, Pelkie. Ed enjoyed hunting, fishing, and gardening. He was also the barber for his friends in the community.
Mr. Kuivinen is survived by his loving children, Marshall (Carolyn) Kuivinen of Pelkie, Bruce (Rosanne) Kuivinen of Alston, and Julie (Samuel) Wuornos of Pelkie, grandchildren, Clinton, Conrad, Kimberly,Bradley, Kelly,Brent, Samuel, and Amanda, great grandchildren, Cameron, Macy, Miah, and Megan, and sister, Elsie Johnson of Garden City, MI. Several nieces and nephews also survive. He was preceded in death by 3 brothers and 4 sisters.
Funeral services for Mr. Kuivinen were held at 3 p.m. Thursday, September 17, 2009 from Grace Free Lutheran Church, Pelkie with Pastor Dean Franz officiating. Interment took place in the Pelkie Cemetery. The family received friends at the church on Thursday from 2 p.m. until the time of the service.
