JAMES C. "JIM" SELDEN's Obituary
JAMES C. "JIM" SELDEN, 88, of L'Anse, passed away Tuesday, February 6, 2007 at Baraga County Memorial Hospital, L'Anse following a brief illness. He was born in L'Anse, MI. on April 10, 1918 son of the late Guy and Selina (Seavoy) Selden. Jim attended school in L'Anse and graduated in 1938. During his high school years he was noted for his football skills. During WWII he worked at Packard Motor Company in Detroit. Returning to L'Anse, he was employed by the Celotex Corporation as storeroom keeper until his retirement in 1980. In addition, Jim had been a bartender in many of the local bars over the years. He married the former Mary Donnersberger on August 1948 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, L'Anse. Jim was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, L'Anse. His hobbies included hunting, reading, restoring antique furniture, and was a skillful wine maker. Jim will be remembered as a wonderful father, loving husband and devoted family man.
Mr. Selden is survived by his loving wife, Mary, children, Tom (Cindy) Selden of L'Anse, Daniel (Patti) Selden of Ft. Pierce, FL. Joseph (Gale) Selden of Monroe, MI., Mary (John) Schmidt of L'Anse and Detroit, Regina (Charles) Theriault of Gaylord, MI. and Laura Jeske of Gaylord, MI., 20 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, sister, Bootsie Suo of St. Clair Shores, MI. and sister-in-law, Madge Selden of Marquette. Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. He was preceded in death by his brother and sisters, May, John, Patricia, and Dorothy.
A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday, February 9, 2007 from Sacred Heart Catholic Church, L'Anse with Father Augustin George, celebrant. Spring interment will take place in the L'Anse Evergreen Cemetery. The family received friends on Thursday, February 8, 2007 from 6 until 8 p.m. at the Reid Funeral Service and Chapel, L'Anse and for 1 hour prior to the Mass at the church on Friday. A parish prayer service was held in the funeral chapel on Thursday evening at 7 p.m. The Reid Funeral Service and Chapel, L'Anse has been entrusted with arrangements
