JAMES R ROCK's Obituary
JAMES RODERICK ROCK, 75, of Prickett Dam Rd., Pelkie, passed away at his residence following a long battle with cancer on Tuesday, June 15, 2004. He was born in Pequaming, MI. on March 30, 1929 son of the late Edward P. and Sarah (LaParch) Rock. Jim attended Pequaming and Baraga Schools. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Jim was employed by Celotex, the White Pine Copper Mine and Cleveland Cliff Iron Company where he retired after 32 years. He was a member of the L’Anse American Legion Post 144; South Range Fraternal Order of Eagles 1122, and a life member of the L’Anse VFW Post 3897. Jim enjoyed hunting, fishing woodworking, and dancing.
Mr. Rock is survived by his loving children, Steven J. Rock of Baraga, Connie (Alvin) Muller of Austin, TX., Renee Rock Marion of Atlantic Mine, Lori Morin of Baraga and Carol (Bill) Boever of Baraga, his former wife, Bernice (Kemppainen) Rock of Baraga, 9 grandchildren, brother, Edward (Charlotte) Rock of Pequaming, sister, Helen Ensign of L’Anse, and his best friend, Mary Ann Hakala of Pelkie. He was preceded in death by 3 sisters, Ada Almi, Stella Getzen, Dorothy Ross, and twin brother, John Roy Rock.
A memorial service for Mr. Rock was held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, June 21, 2004 from the Reid Funeral Service and Chapel, L’Anse with Father Jamie Ziminski officiating. Interment took place in the Baraga Cemetery beside his brother John. The family received friends on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until time of the service. Baraga County Area Veterans conducted military honors at 10:30 a.m. Following the services, the family invited friends to join them for fellowship and luncheon in the Harrington Gathering room located at the funeral home. The Reid Funeral Service and Chapel, L’Anse has been entrusted with funeral arrangements.
