JAMES ROBERT SHANNON's Obituary
JAMES ROBERT SHANNON,86, of Baraga, passed away Friday, April 1, 2005 at the Jacobetti Home for Veterans in Marquette, MI. He had been a resident there for three weeks. James was born April 17, 1918, in Calumet, MI. to the late Harry and Margaret (Weir) Shannon. He graduated from Calumet High School in 1936. Jim was a veteran of World War II, serving in the United States Army Air Force. Following the service, Jim was employed by the former Bosch Brewery in Houghton as Brewmaster. He moved to Baraga in 1962. In 1972, Jim went to work at the Pettibone Corp. as a mechanic. He enjoyed playing cards, including pinochle and cribbage. Jim was a former member of the Superior National Bank bowling team. He loved the outdoors and was an avid fisherman.
Mr. Shannon is survived by his son, James Shannon of Baraga; granddaughter Diana Shannon also of Baraga; two sisters, Jean Farley of Lake Linden, and Clarice DesJardin of Largo, FL. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Jim was preceded in death by his wife Helen in 1997, a son Michael in 1965, his brother, Cecil Shannon and sisters Margaret Stout and Ruth Branson.
A visitation for Mr. Shannon was held from 11 a.m. until 12 noon Friday, April 8, 2005 at the Reid Funeral Service and Chapel, L'Anse. Baraga County area veterans under the direction of the American Legion Post 444, Baraga, conducted military honors at 12 noon at the funeral chapel. The Reid Funeral Service and Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements
