James Dean "Jam" Turriff's Obituary
James Dean “Jam” Turriff, age 31, of L’Anse, MI passed away Thursday, December 6, 2018 as the result of a motor vehicle accident. He was born on Bergstrom Air Force Base, Texas on June 20, 1987 the son of Dean Turriff and Amy Velmer. Jam graduated from Baraga High School in 2005. He married the former Evelyn Hebert in L’Anse on December 7, 2015. Jam had worked as a saw operator for Besse Forest Products, Inc, Baraga. He enjoyed his Banshee’s and Chrysler 300 and loved tinkering with anything mechanical. He was an amazing husband, dad and son.
Jam is survived by his devoted wife Evelyn Turriff, daughter Kaylee Turriff both of L’Anse, loving mother Amy Velmer Turriff of L’Anse, proud father Dean (Rebecca) Turriff of Negaunee, sister Melissa Turriff (Andrew Petoskey) of Texas, nephew Aaron James Petoskey of Texas, grandparents, Ethel and Ray Vizina of Baraga, and Sharon Maki of L’Anse and mother-in-law and father-in-law Greta and John Hebert of L’Anse. Numerous aunts, uncles and cousins also survive. He was preceded in death by his grandparents James Velmer and Richard and Diane Turriff and special cousin Wayne Velmer.
A memorial funeral service will be held at 6 p.m., Thursday, December 13, 2018 at the Reid Funeral Service and Chapel, L’Anse with Deacon John Cadeau officiating. The family will greet friends at the funeral chapel on Thursday from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. Immediately following the memorial funeral service, the family invites friends to join them for fellowship and dessert in the Harrington Gathering Room, located at the funeral home.
Graveside funeral services for James will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, September 17, 2019 at the L'Anse Evergreen Cemetery with Deacon John Cadeau officiating.
