JEAN C. HUTTUNEN's Obituary
JEAN C. HUTTUNEN, 53, of Pelkie, passed away Thursday, February 10, 2005 at Marquette General Hospital following a courageous fight with cancer. She was born in L’Anse, MI. on December 16, 1951 daughter of Charles and Esther (Niemi) Takalo. Jean graduated from Baraga High School in 1970. On June 7, 1969 she married Thomas Huttunen. Jean was a member of the former Kyro Lutheran Church in Pelkie, the United Steel Workers of America and was the Union Recording Secretary of local 5024. In her leisure, she enjoyed sewing, gardening, cooking, going to the lake and fishing. Jean was employed at the White Pine Copper Mine from 1986 to 1996, then worked at the Job center for displaced mine workers for a year. She then attended Northern Michigan University receiving an associate degree in General Business in 1997 She was employed by Northern Orthotics in Baraga as secretary and most recently as a graphics designer at Homestead Graphics until her illness in December of 2004.
Mrs. Huttunen is survived by her loving husband, Thomas; children, son Randy Huttunen of Alston, and daughter Bonnie Huttunen of L’Anse; her mother, Esther Takalo; adopted “grandchildren”, Candy, Snoopy, and Sammi; brothers, Lowell (Martha) Witz of West Virginia, and George Takalo and his girlfriend Kaye of Pelkie; sister, Lynn Takalo of Baraga. Several nephews, 1 great-nephew and cousins also survive. She was preceded in death by her father, Charles.
Funeral services for Mrs. Huttunen were held at 11 a.m Monday, February 14, 2005 from the Reid Funeral Service and Chapel, L’Anse with Pastor Scott Williams officiating. Spring interment will take place in the Pelkie Cemetery. The family received friends on Sunday, February 13, 2005 from 6 until 8 p.m. at the Reid Funeral Service and Chapel and 1 hour prior to the service on Monday. The family suggests memorials in Mrs. Huttunen’s name may be directed to Omega House, Hancock, MI. Envelopes were available at the funeral chapel. Following the service on Monday the family invited friends to join them for fellowship and luncheon in the Harrington Gathering room, located at the funeral home. The Reid Funeral Service and Chapel, L’Anse has been entrusted with arrangements.
