JESSE JAMES JAUKKURI's Obituary
JESSE JAMES JAUKKURI, age 23, of Baraga, died Thursday evening October 4, 2007 following a boating accident on the Portage Canal in Houghton, MI. He was born in L’Anse, MI. on April 10, 1984 the son of Peter and Jo-Ann (Lamson) Jaukkuri. Jesse graduated from Baraga High School in 2002. He was a member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church, Baraga and the Keweenaw Bay Indian Community. Jesse enjoyed playing video games, doing artistic drawing, and singing. He prided himself in using “correct” English. Jesse was a friend to all that knew him.
Jesse is survived by his parents, Jo-Ann Jaukkuri of Baraga, and Peter Jaukkuri of Baraga, brothers Peter Jr., and Joseph, sisters, Danielle, Elizabeth, and Vikki, grandmother, Marge Giddings of Baraga, niece, Breonna and nephew, Jordin. Numerous cousins also survive. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Gary “Poncho” Giddings, paternal grandparents, Paul and Melvina Jaukkuri, and his great grandmother, Marie Kemppainen.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday, October 13, 2007 from St. Ann’s Catholic Church, Baraga with Father George Maki, Celebrant. Interment took place in the Assinins Cemetery. The family received friends on Friday, October 12, 2007 from 6 until 8 p.m. with a parish prayer service at 7 p.m. at the Reid Funeral Service and Chapel, L’Anse and for 1 hour prior to the Mass at the church on Saturday.
