JOHN E. BORGEN's Obituary
JOHN EDWARD BORGEN, 92, of L’Anse, MI. passed away Wednesday, October 12, 2005 at the Shulstad Leisure Living Home in Baraga. He was born in Pequaming, MI. on January 12, 1913 son of the late Christian and Constance (Pettersen) Borgen. John attended L’Anse area schools. He married the former Odielle B. Liberty in L’Anse on December 26, 1938. She preceded him in death in 1983. He was also preceded in death by his companion of 10 years, Katheryn DeVlieg. John worked for the National Park Service and was the boat captain of the “Ranger 3” in Houghton for 7 years, retiring in 1986.
Mr. Borgen is survived by his loving children, John C. (Kathleen) Borgen of Troy, MI., Sharon (Robert) Caylor of L’Anse, and Odielle (Richard) Ketelhut of Chesterfield Twp., MI., grandchildren, John, Adam, Kathryn, Cary, Dawn, Dean, Cassie, Deborah, Claudia, and Carrie, 15 great-grandchildren, brother, Robert (Evelyn) Borgen of Milwaukee, and sister, Hannah Gerard of Gladstone, MI. He was preceded in death by 8 brothers and sisters.
A memorial service for Mr. Borgen was held on October 27, 2005 from St. Paul Lutheran Church in St. Clair Shores, MI. Memorials in Mr. Borgen’s honor may be directed to Juvenile Diabetes Foundation. The Reid Funeral Service and Chapel, L’Anse assisted the family with arrangements.
