KIM ALANE JUNTUNEN's Obituary
KIM ALANE JUNTUNEN, 40, of Elo, beloved daughter and dear sister passed away suddenly at her home on Monday, March 31, 2008. She was born in Hancock, MI. on August 19, 1967, the daughter of Thomas Henry and Elaine Francis (Varline) Juntunen. Kim graduated from Baraga High School in 1985. She attended Mott Community College in Flint and graduated from Mr. David's School of Cosmetology also in Flint. Kim had lived in Flint and Naples, FL. prior to moving to Elo. She was employed at Smart Style Hair Salon in Houghton. Kim was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Baraga. She was an ardent gardener and enjoyed growing vegetables, especially hot peppers, and canning the fruits of her labor. Kim loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter, fisher woman, and enjoyed snowshoeing, swimming and bird watching.
Ms. Juntunen is survived by her mother Elaine of L'Anse, father, Henry and stepmother, Sharon Haynes Juntunen of Naples, FL. and Hancock, sister, B. Lynn (Larry) Marson of Lewiston, MI., brother, Glenn H. (Wanda) Juntunen of Pelkie, two nephews, Arjay H. Juntunen and Dustin C. Juntunen both of Pelkie, companion, Ron Jukkala, aunts, Eleanor Taurianinen of Naples, FL., Helmi (Arthur) McHardy of Naples, FL., Linda Lohela (also Kim's Godmother) of Mohawk, MI., Shirley (Franklin) Wooldridge of Newark, Delaware, Lorraine Coleman of Rochester Hills, MI., Elsie Sheppard of Sterling Heights, MI. and Rodney Varline of Baraga. Several cousins and her furry “kids” Slippery and Sparky also survive. Kim was preceded in death by her grandparents, Carl and Sylvia (Pirkola) Varline and Thomas and Selma (Naamanka) Juntunen, uncles, Charles Juntunen, Henry Lohela, Arthur Taurianinen, Harold Sheppard, aunts, Jenny Holstein and Mae Juntunen, cousins Thomas McHardy and Brian Sheppard.
A celebration of Kim's life was held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 28, 2008 at the Reid Funeral Service and Chapel, L'Anse with Pastor Ted Koehl officiating. The family greeted friends at the funeral chapel on Saturday from 10 a.m. until time of the service. Following the celebration service the family invited friends to join them for fellowship and a luncheon at the Baraga American Legion Post 444. The family also asks that any expressions of sympathy be directed to the charity of your choice in Kim's name. Kim will be greatly missed by her family and many friends.
