Larry Charles Hiltunen's Obituary
Larry Charles Hiltunen, age 82 of Marquette, MI and formerly of Watton, MI passed away Friday, April 4, 2025 at the D.J. Jacobetti Home for Veterans in Marquette, MI. He was born in Ramsay, MI on August 30, 1942 the son of the late Charles Alfred and Selma Joanna (Leppala) Hiltunen. Larry attended school in Watton, and L’Anse. He joined the United States Army during the Vietnam War. Following his honorable discharge, he began his career as a mechanic in various industrial industries. He retired in 1978 from Republic Mine following an accident. Larry was a member of Watton Apostolic Lutheran Church. He loved “old’ country music, western movies, reading, antique cars, smelting, playing bingo, people watching, and wintering in Florida. He was a great mechanic and could fix anything.
Larry leaves behind 2 children; Karl Hiltunen of Bay City, MI, and Laurie (Alden) Ahola of Watton, 5 grandchildren; Kelley Hiltunen, Elmer Hiltunen, Nickolas Ahola, Angel Ahola, and Emily (Andrew) Dukart as well as 8 great grandchildren; Eli, Kaysin, Alexzandra, Sarah, Lydia, Alivia, Ryder and David and his “family” at the D.J. Jacobetti Home for Veterans facility, where he resided since 1989. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Private family graveside and military services will be held in the Covington Cemetery at a later date. He will be laid to rest with his parents.
The Reid Funeral Service and Chapel, L’Anse has been entrusted with the funeral arrangements.
