LAURA L. JOHNSON's Obituary
LAURA L. JOHNSON, 98, of Baraga, passed away Sunday, February 26, 2012 at Bayside Village, L’Anse, following a lengthy illness. She was born in Baraga on January 5, 1914 the daughter of the late Telesphore and Amelia (Sirard) LaJoye. Laura graduated from Baraga High School in 1931. She married Alfred Johnson in Assinins, MI on June 3, 1935. He preceded her in death on October 4, 1980. Laura was a member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Baraga, the Pinochle Club, TOPS, and a member of the former St. Ann’s Catholic Church Altar Society and St. Theresa Circle. She enjoyed playing pinochle, reading, doing crosswords, cooking, and gardening.
Mrs. Laura Johnson is survived by her children Robert (Shirley) Johnson of L’Anse, Mary (Mike) Johnson of L’Anse, and Rose Marie “Suzie” (Jim) Mayo of Baraga, 12 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, and sister Elizabeth “Betty” (Don) Holso of L’Anse. She was preceded in death by her son Billy, daughter Mary Ellen, grandson Michael Johnson, granddaughter Leeann Becia, great grandchildren Kristen and Joey Becia and Kelsey Mayo, sisters Jean, and Emaline Durand, brothers Charles, Lewis, and Melvin “Bunny”.
A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated at 11 a.m. on Thursday, March 1, 2012 from St. Ann’s Catholic Church, Baraga with Father John Longbucco, Celebrant. Spring interment will take place in the Baraga Cemetery. The family received friends at the church on Thursday from 10 a.m. until the time of the Mass.
