LAWRENCE W. COLLINS's Obituary
LAWRENCE W. COLLINS, 94, of L’Anse, MI. passed away Thursday January 18, 2007 at Bayside Village, L’Anse following a lengthy illness. He had been a resident at Bayside Village for 2 years. Lawrence was born in Keweenaw Bay, MI. on December 9, 1912 son of the late John and Marie (Matthews) Collins. He attended school in Assinins. Lawrence worked for an engine manufacturing company as a die maker. He married Helen Howard in 1933 and she preceded him in death in 1971. Lawrence married Libby Caine in Waukesha, WI. in 1975 and she preceded him in death in 1991. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, L’Anse. Lawrence enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, walking, being by the water, traveling, and had a great love for animals.
Mr. Collins is survived by his loving children, Richard (Genevieve) Collins of Waukesha, Michael Collins of Brookfield, WI., Mary (Harry) Conley of Lima, Ohio, and Suzanne (Tom) Dankert of Hartland, WI., 9 grandchildren and many great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by 1 daughter and 1 brother.
A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday, January 22, 2007 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, L’Anse with Father George Maki, celebrant. Spring interment will take place in the Baraga Cemetery. The family received friends at the church on Monday from 10 a.m. until time of the Mass. Memorials in Mr. Collins’ honor may be directed to the St. Vincent DePaul Society.
