LEORA M. LaPLANTE's Obituary
LEORA M. LaPLANTE, 95, of Baraga passed away Friday, April 22, 2005 at Bayside Village following a lengthy illness. She was born in Keweenaw Bay on August 10, 1909 daughter of the late Edward and Edna (Sylvester) Aubin. Leora graduated from L’Anse High School. She married Arthur LaPlante in Assinins. He preceded her in death. Leora was a member of Holy Name of Jesus Church, Assinins, Keweenaw Bay Extension Club She was an active community volunteer including the Pelkie Fair Committee. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, sewing, and was fond of animals. Leora was an exceptional cook and baker.
Mrs. LaPlante is survived by her loving son, Gerald LaPlante of Baraga; grandchildren Michele (Paul) Halverson of Baraga, Alan, Peggy, and Mike; great-grandchildren, Sheila, and Sheena; sister, Dorothy Bergeron of Keweenaw Bay. A niece and nephew also survive. She was preceded in death by her son and a sister.
Funeral services for Mrs. LaPlante were held at 11 a.m. April 26, 2005 from the Reid Funeral Service and Chapel, L’Anse with Father Antony officiating. Interment took place in the Assinins Cemetery. The family received friends on Monday, April 25, 2005 from 6 until 8 p.m. at the Reid Funeral Service and Chapel, L’Anse and 1 hour prior to the funeral service on Tuesday. A parish prayer service was held Monday evening at 7 p.m. Following the service on Tuesday, the family invited friends to join them for fellowship and luncheon in the Harrington Gathering room, located at the funeral home.
