LESTER E. "OGIMAA-GIIZHIK" DRIFT JR.'s Obituary
LESTER E. "OGIMAA-GIIZHIK" DRIFT JR., 42, of L'Anse passed away suddenly Tuesday, March 18, 2008 at Baraga County Memorial Hospital. He was born in Duluth, MN. on April 24, 1965 the son of Lester E. and Karen (Strong) Drift Sr. Lester attended school in Orr, Minnesota. He married the former Frances Chosa in Zeba on July 12, 1987. Lester owned and operated his own roofing company, Drift Roofing in L'Anse. He was a member of the Bois Forte Indian Community in Nett Lake, MN. and the L'Anse Area School Board. Lester enjoyed attending and participating in pow wows, coaching little league, bingo and playing computer chess.
Mr. Drift is survived by his loving family; wife, Frances, children, Alden (Angela) Connor of L'Anse, Dan (Beth) Connor of L'Anse, Tiara Drift, Taylor Drift, Tiana Drift, Trinity Drift, Tina (John) Messer, Tanya Miller, and Teresa Miller all of L'Anse, 8 grandchildren, his parents, brothers, Peter (Lori) Drift, Mark Drift, and Bart Drift, sisters, Karlene (Donald) Chosa, and Farrah Drift. Numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive. He was preceded in death by his grandparents.
Traditional funeral services for Mr. Drift were held at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 22, 2008 at the Ojibwa Community College gymnasium, Baraga. Spring interment will take place in the Assinins Cemetery. The family greeted friends at the gymnasium on Friday, March 21, 2008 from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. and on Saturday from 9 a.m. until time of the service.
