LILA S. ERICKSON's Obituary
Lila S. Erickson, age 93 L’Anse, passed quietly into the presence of her Lord on Wednesday, May 23, 2012. She had been living comfortably at Bayside Village in L’Anse since 1991. Lila was born in Hancock on April 27, 1919, to Emil and Mary Antonen of Baraga. She graduated form Baraga High School. In September of 1939 she married Harold C. Erickson of Skanee. Harold and Lila started out married life living in Skanee. During World War II they moved to Detroit where Harold worked at a Ford factory assisting the war effort. Following the war they returned to Skanee, later moving to L’Anse where they lived for over 50 years at their home on Eastern Ave. Harold went home to be with the Lord in 1998 after almost 59 years of faithful marriage. Harold and Lila were long time members of the L’Anse Baptist Church. Harold and Lila loved to travel and during retirement years would often pack up on the spur of the moment and head out to one of their favorite destinations to spend a few days. They also loved to eat out, seldom eating at home. They thought nothing of driving to Houghton or Marquette for no other reason than to have dinner.
Lila is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Howard and Joy Erickson living in Lynchburg, VA. She passed on her love of travel and adventure to her son, who along with his wife, has been privileged to travel across much of the U.S. and to numerous foreign countries.
Lila was preceded in death by her brother John and sister Elma. Her oldest son, Ronald, was tragically killed in 1973.
A private graveside memorial will be held by her family.
