MARCELLA S. "MARCY" MAKI's Obituary
MARCELLA S. “MARCY” MAKI, 83, of L’Anse, passed away Tuesday, December 21, 2004 at Bayside Village, L’Anse where she had been a resident for more than a year. She was born in Keweenaw Bay, MI. on April 27, 1921 daughter of the late John and Emma Christine (Nordstrom) Rantanen. Marcy graduated from Baraga High School in 1939. Along with Bonnie Michaels she co-owned and operated 2 clothing boutiques during her career, in L’Anse and White Pine. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, L’Anse and a member of the former church Altar Society. She was also a member of the Eagles Aerie 2287Auxiliary. Marcy enjoyed cooking, and traveling. She was a skilled seamstress, making clothes for her family and others even fashioning their Halloween costumes. A kind and giving person, Marcy was always ready to assist others in sickness or when help was needed.
Mrs. Maki is survived by her loving children; William “Bill” Rolof Jr. of L’Anse, Marcia (Louis) Mitchell of Houston, TX. and Mary (Peter) Thielen of Marinette, WI., grandchildren; Shannon and her husband Roland, Jennifer, Brett and his wife Rebecca, Keith, Stacey R., Stacey A., Debbie, Jannie, and Joey, great-grandchildren; Jordan, Julia, Ethan, Samantha N., Brady,Keaton and Samantha C., sisters; Millie Hietikko of Oak Park, and Emma Alatalo of Baraga. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive. She was preceded in death by 5 children, 2 infant sons and Gary, Barton, and Albert Rolof, 8 brothers, and 6 sisters.
A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 28, 2004 from Sacred Heart Catholic Church, L’Anse with Father Chacko, celebrant. Spring interment will take place in the Evergreen Cemetery. The family received friends on Monday, December 27, 2004 from 6 until 8 p.m. at the Reid Funeral Service and Chapel, L’Anse and 1 hour prior to Mass at church on Tuesday. The Eagles Aerie Auxiliary 2287 conducted a memorial service Monday evening at 6:30 p.m. followed by a parish prayer service at 7 p.m. in the funeral chapel. The Reid Funeral Service and Chapel, L’Anse has been entrusted with arrangements.
