MARGARET M. KUBIT's Obituary
MARGARET M. KUBIT, 88, of L'Anse went home to the Lord Monday morning, May 19, 2008 following a lengthy illness. She was born in Keweenaw Bay, MI. on March 9, 1920 the daughter of the late Isaac and Lena (Juntunen) Moilanen. Margaret graduated from Baraga High School in 1938. She married Theodore “Ted” Kubit in Milwaukee, WI., on February 8, 1941. They lived in Antigo, Wisconsin for several years, moving to L'Anse in 1956. Her dear husband Ted preceded her in death on May 19, 2006 after 65 years of marriage. Margaret dedicated her life to her family and home. Raising seven children was a full time job and she was proud to do it. She was a wonderful cook and baker; her cookie jar was always full of homemade cookies.. Margaret enjoyed sewing, and her children and grandchildren were the recipients of her talent. In her spare time, she enjoyed growing beautiful flowers and raising vegetables. She loved music and the Lord, and was a diligent prayer warrior for her family and friends. Margaret and her husband Ted, spent many an evening playing cards, with their loving and kind friends, Dick and Lucille Utnehmer. Margaret was known and loved for her warm and welcoming ways. She was surrounded by wonderful and kind neighbors that gave back to her the goodness and kindness she provided to many through the years and they were very important to her.
Mrs. Kubit is survived by her loving children, Dick (Lynn) Kubit of Riverside, Iowa, “Wayne” (Diane) Kubit of Sylva, N.C., Gary Kubit of Virginia Beach, VA., Steven (Pam) Kubit of Fayetteville, GA., Karen (Dan) Perras of Howell, MI., Diane Kent of L'Anse, and Joanne (Michael) Ollila of L'Anse, 17 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, and sister, Eva Danielson of Newberry. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive. She was preceded in death by her grandchild, Jeremy Kubit, son-in-law, Robert “Bobby” Kent, brothers, Arthur, KJ, Heimo, Edward, Oiva, and Dick, and sisters, Gertrude Karkanen, and Rauha Klobocher.
Funeral services for Mrs. Kubit were held at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 24, 2008 at the Reid Funeral Service and Chapel, L'Anse with Judy Mattson officiating. Margaret's grandchildren honored her as casket bearers. Interment took place in the Keweenaw Bay Cemetery. The family greeted friends at the funeral chapel on Saturday from 11 a.m. until time of the service. Following the service the family invited friends to join them for fellowship and a luncheon in the Harrington Gathering room, located at the funeral home.
