Marie A. Ketola's Obituary
Marie A. Ketola, age 88 of L’Anse, MI passed away peacefully in her sleep on Tuesday, July 12, 2022 at Bayside Village, L’Anse. She was born in Painesdale, MI on June 8, 1934, the daughter of the late Eli and Hulda (Peltola) Tolonen. Marie attended Painesdale area schools and Arvon Twp schools. She married Reino Ketola in Hancock, MI on June 21, 1952, and they had recently celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary. Marie and Reino had a date night in Houghton every week. She was a member of Seventh Day Adventist Church, L’Anse. Marie enjoyed collecting lawn ornaments and lovingly moved each one to mow the lawn herself, working on word search puzzles, reading, and spending time with her grandchildren. She enjoyed shoveling snow in the winter and sitting in the sun in her lawn chair in the summer. Marie loved raising her 5 children, and every Sabbath after church she would prepare dinner for her family, trying out new vegetarian recipes.
Marie is survived by her loving husband Reino Ketola of L’Anse, children Ken Ketola of L’Anse, Steve (Ailen) Ketola of Berrien Springs, MI, Trudy Ketola of L’Anse, Corinne (Ed) Fetingis of McDonald, TN, and Karen (Mike) Dault of L’Anse, grandchildren Matthew (Victoria) Fetingis, Ryan and Kaci Dault, brother Charles (Karen) Tolonen of Pembine, WI. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Wallace (Vi) Tolonen, and Clarence (Doreen) Tolonen and brother-in-law and sister-in-law Martin and Millie Ketola.
A private memorial service will be held Saturday, July 23, 2022.
A graveside service for Marie and Reino will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, June 16, 2023 in the L'Anse Evergreen Cemetery.
