MARVIN J. HOLMA's Obituary
MARVIN J. HOLMA, 63, of Watton, MI. passed away Sunday, June 20, 2010 at the Oscar G. Johnson Veteran’s Medical Center in Iron Mountain following a short illness. He was born in Negaunee, MI. on January 28, 1947 the son of the late Elmer and Helen (Heikkinen) Holma. Marvin graduated from L’Anse High School in 1965. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. Marvin was a decorated veteran, and was awarded the Bronze Star. He had worked at the White Pine Mine and was a heavy equipment operator in the logging industry. Marvin was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church, Covington, and the Covington VFW Post #8945. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing baseball, and watching his granddaughter play hockey.
Mr. Holma is survived by his loving sons, John Holma of Covington, and Craig (Maura) Holma of Iron River, granddaughter, Hannah, brother, Douglas (Carol) Holma of Covington, and sister, Nancy (Lee) Marinich of L’Anse. Numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive. He was preceded in death by his son, Robert.
Funeral services for Mr. Holma were held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, June 24, 2010 from the Reid Funeral Service and Chapel, L’Anse with Reverend Kevin Kaiser officiating. Interment took place in the Covington Cemetery. The family greeted friends at the funeral chapel on Thursday from 12 noon until the time of the service. Baraga County area veterans, under the direction of the Baraga American Legion Post 444 conducted military honors at the funeral chapel on Thursday at 12:30 p.m. Following the services the family invited friends to join them for fellowship and a luncheon at the Covington VFW Post #8945.
