Mary L Bergerson's Obituary
Mary Louise Karvakko Bergerson age 66, has passed away, she was found Wednesday, February 22nd in her home in Baraga, sudden and unexpected, of natural causes. Kubby had been hospitalized briefly prior to her death and upon being released, had declared she “never felt better!” While her death was sudden, she did not suffer, and her final moments were peaceful; death caught her putzing around her kitchen, dressed in “going out of the house” clothes, hair done. She was born in Hancock, Michigan on November 6, 1950 to Hubert and Toini (Hill) Karvakko. Mary spent her childhood on the family dairy farm in Pelkie, MI and teenage years in-town Pelkie. She attended Baraga Area Schools, graduating high school in 1968, and then attended both Suomi (now Finlandia University) College and Northern Michigan University. Kubby worked for the Copper Country Intermediate School District in Hancock, Michigan, for 30 years and upon retirement, secured a position with the Keweenaw Bay Indian Community working as their Library Director at the Ojibwa Community College for 10 years. She officially retired, December 2016 and was enjoying retirement fully! Mary’s hobbies and interests included; golfing with her friends, reading, crossword puzzles, Green Bay Packer football, bumming with her chums, doting on her two grandchildren, and Mary was proud of her Finnish heritage. She was comfortable and content in her home with her two faithful cat companions, Bernard “BB” Bergerson, and Sal. Mary’s life was happy and full, she was always the sort of lady to live life on “her terms.” She will be greatly missed by those who have known her.
She is survived by daughter, Abigail Bergerson Manson of Marquette and Hancock, Michigan and her beloved grandchildren George William Manson of Hancock, MI., and Senia Llewellyn Manson of Marquette, MI, Aunt Anita Karvakko Sikorsky currently of WI and Aunt Phelma Karvakko Jacobsen of VA, numerous cousins and friends. Preceded in death by her parents, Hubert and Toini (Hill) Karvakko, husband Bill Bergerson, and son-in-law Ben Manson.
The family would like to thank our friends, with special recognition to Ann Saveniemi of Southfield, MI, Sandy Johnson, Cindy Giddings, and Denise Giddings of Baraga, MI, and extended family for their support.
A celebration of life has been planned for Saturday, March 11, 2017 at the American Legion in Baraga, Michigan 2pm-7pm. Please join us in her honor.
