MELVIN L. HILL's Obituary
MELVIN L. HILL, 89, of Baraga, passed away Thursday, December 12, 2013, at Marquette General Hospital. He was born in Detroit, MI on August 29, 1924 the son of the late Urba Hill and Hilda (Oja) Smith. Melvin attended school in Baraga. He served in the US Navy during WWII. Melvin married the former Mildred Pesonen in Calumet on October 6, 1946. He was a deliveryman for the Copper Country Dairy for many years. Melvin was a member of Mission United Lutheran Church, Pelkie. He enjoyed watching baseball, especially the Cubs, taking walks with his dogs, going on picnics, and hunting.
Mr. Hill is survived by his loving wife Mildred, daughters Doris (John) Morrison of Brimley, MI., and Brenda (William) Sterbenz of Baraga, grandchildren Jennifer Collins, Andy (Nicky) Morrison, and Kara (Chris) VanderMeer, Kyle, Randall, and Kevin Hill, daughter-in-law Virginia Hill, numerous great grandchildren, and brother Brent (Helen) Smith. He was preceded in death by his son Tom, daughter Nancy, grandson Bill, and sister Jean.
Funeral services for Mr. Hill were held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, December 18, 2013 from Mission United Lutheran Church, Pelkie, with Pastor John Autio officiating. The family greeted friends at the church on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral service. Baraga County area veterans, under the direction of the Baraga American Legion Post #444 conducted military honors at the church on Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. Spring interment will take place in the Pelkie Cemetery.
