MICHAEL J. HAMM's Obituary
MICHAEL JAMES HAMM, 31, of Little Lake, MI. passed away suddenly Tuesday, April 26, 2005 at Marquette General Hospital. He was born in L’Anse on August 24, 1973 son of Jim Hamm and Georgia (Makela) Selden. Mike graduated from Gwinn High School in 1991. He served in the US Army. Following the service, he attended Michigan Tech. University for Mechanical Engineering. Mike married the former Rebecca Collins in Lake Tahoe, NV. on August 24, 2004. He was employed as an auto mechanic. Mike was a devoted father; he loved his children, and his varied interests included hanging out with his friends, cars, and outdoor activities. He was especially fond of fishing trips to Isle Royale. Mike had been an avid hockey player.
Michael is survived by his loving wife, Rebecca; children, Michael, Erik, December and Kayla all of Little Lake; father, Jim (Kristine) Hamm of Little Lake; mother, Georgia (Jim) Selden of Aura; brothers, Jacob (Betsy) Hamm of Brandon, WI. and Jim (Tanya) Hamm of Waupun, WI., special sister; Elizabeth “Tuti” (Jason) Gibbons of L’Anse; step sisters Sandra Griffin, Heidi Sayles, step brother Jon Selden all of Washington State and step brother Ryan Harmala of Little Lake, maternal grandmother, Betty Makela of L’Anse, grandfather, Kelly Selden of L’Anse, paternal grandfather, LeRoy Hamm of Elo, MI. and great-grandfather Gaylord Hamm of L’Anse. He is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his sister, Jennifer Hamm and his special grandfather, George Makela.
Funeral services for Michael were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 30, 2005 from the Reid Funeral Service and Chapel, L’Anse with Father George Maki officiating. Interment took place in the L’Anse Evergreen Cemetery. The family received friends on Friday, April 29, 2005 from 6 until 8 p.m. at the Reid Funeral Service and Chapel, L’Anse and 1 hour prior to the service on Saturday. Friday evening, the Baraga County Area Veterans, under the direction of the Baraga American Legion Post 444 conducted military honors at 6:30 p.m. followed by a parish prayer service at 7 p.m. Following the service on Saturday, the family invited friends to join them for fellowship and luncheon in the Harrington Gathering room, located at the funeral home. The Reid Funeral Service and Chapel, L’Anse has been entrusted with arrangements.
