MICHAEL O. SYRJALA's Obituary
MICHAEL O. SYRJALA, 64, of Watton, Michigan, passed away suddenly Monday, July 8, 2013, at Baraga County Memorial Hospital, L’Anse, MI.. He was born in Marquette, MI on November 30, 1948 the son of the late Onnie and Helvi (Ahola) Syrjala. Michael graduated from L’Anse High School in 1966. He worked at CCI for 35 years, retiring in 2003. Michael married Mary Nelson in Amasa on November 1, 1969. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Covington. Michael was proud that he was granted a Soil Conservation award, and was an active 4-H leader. He enjoyed working the farm and was known as a hard worker and very special man. Michael was a dedicated Green Bay Packer fan, and enjoyed taking his grandkids to the games. He loved his dog and collecting things all sorts of things..
Mr. Syrjala is survived by his loving wife Mary, children Jennifer (James) Revoyr of Hancock, Andrew (Nicole) Syrjala, Jeffrey (Heidi) Syrjala, Tara Syrjala, and Melanie Syrjala all of Watton, grandchildren Kelsey, Mikayla, Andrea, Dustin, Kyle, and Rachel, great grandchild Blake, sister Arlene (Russell) Tarvainen of Watton and several nieces, nephews, and many friends.
Funeral services for Mr. Syrjala were held at 5 p.m Friday, July 12, 2013 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Covington with Pastor Mark Reinsch officiating. The family greeted friends at the church on Friday from 3 p.m. until the time of the service. Interment took place in the Covington Cemetery.
