MILGA M. PARKILA's Obituary
Milga M. Parkila, age 93, of Pelkie, MI passed away Sunday, October 5, 2014 at Marquette General Hospital, Marquette, MI where she was a patient. She was born in Aura, Michigan on January 21, 1921 the daughter of the late Charles and Marie (Alatalo) Maki. Milga attended school in Aura and L’Anse. She married Donald Parkila in Pelkie on April 1, 1944. He preceded her in death on July 2, 2000. Milga had worked as a nurse’s aide until she retired in 1966. She was a member of Finnish Lutheran Church in Aura, MI. Milga enjoyed reading, baking, camping, hunting, fishing, trapping and was the caregiver to all.
Mrs. Parkila is survived by her loving family; sons John Parkila of Nisula, Ronald (June) Parkila of Baraga, Arvo (Sharon) Parkila of Garden City, MI and James (Tina) Parkila of Pelkie, daughter Shirley (Keith) Wanhaaho of Elo, 8 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild, and sister Laila Majeski of Milwaukee. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, 3 sisters and 4 brothers.
Funeral services for Mrs. Parkila were held at 12 noon on Wednesday, October 8, 2014 at the Reid Funeral Service and Chapel, L’Anse with Pastor Judy Mattson officiating. The family greeted friends at the funeral chapel on Wednesday from 11 a.m. until the time of the service. Following the funeral service, the family invited friends to join them for fellowship and a luncheon in the Harrington Gathering Room, located at the funeral chapel.
Interment took place in the Pelkie Cemetery.
