NANA M. LYTIKAINEN's Obituary
NANA MARIE LYTIKAINEN, 86, of Baraga passed away at the BCMH Skilled Nursing Facility (SNU) in L’Anse, Michigan on 14 June 2006. Nana Huovinen was born on her family farm in Tapiola, Michigan on 13 November 1919. She was preceded in death by her husband Carl, parents Abel Huovinen and Selma (Savela) Niemi Huovinen Haataja, her brothers Edward and Olaf, sister Esther, and 11 half brothers and sisters.
Nana is survived by son Robert (Noreen) Lytikainen, of Keweenaw Bay and Annapolis, MD, daughters Karen (David) Aho, of Duluth, MN, and Paulette (Paul) Heikkinen of Hancock, 13 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren.
Nana was a wife and homemaker totally dedicated to her husband Carl of 66 years, whom she has been looking forward to rejoining since he passed on 24 February 2006. Family and friends were most important to her. She was a mother, grandmother, step-grandmother, great grandmother, and great grand stepmother who prayed by name for each and everyone of us each evening as she went to sleep.
The 13 grandchildren are; Robert (Lori) Aho of Duluth, MN., Carl (Beth) Lytikainen of Scottsdale, AZ., Erik (Lysa) Lytikainen of Columbia, MD., Mrs. Ken (Terri Aho) Maki of Marquette, Scott Heikkinen of Hancock, Mrs. Joe (Melissa Heikkinen) Wahlberg of Iron River, Michael Aho of Duluth, MN., Mark Lytikainen of Montclair, VA., Mrs. Kory (Diana Heikkinen) Whiting of Marinette, WI, Steven Heikkinen of Hancock, Michael (Christa) Freedman of Annapolis, MD., Jonathan (Juliet) Freedman of Upper Marlboro, MD., and Lance (special friend John ) Freedman of Panama.
The 22 great grandchildren are; Mathew, Alex, Amanda and Emily Aho, Brian, Sarah and Amy Maki, Sarah and Taylor (Carl) Lytikainen, Megan and Lauren Wahlberg, Jonathan, Katherine, David and Luke (Erik) Lytikainen, Jared and Lindsey Whiting, Jennifer (Schroeder) Martori of Scottsdale, AZ, Jerry Schroeder of Camp Pendleton, CA, Paul Schroeder of Las Vegas, NV, Bailey (Jonathan) Freedman and Benjamin (Michael) Freedman.
Nana was a ward clerk and nurse aide at BCMH for several years. She loved God’s creation, enjoying vegetable gardening, her flowers and going on rides through the rivers, woods, countryside and jumping in the lake with Dad. Over the years she was a member of several Lutheran churches including Kyro Lutheran in Pelkie and Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Baraga for the last 52 years.
Funeral services for Mrs. Lytikainen were held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, June 21, 2006 from Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Baraga with Judy Mattson officiating. Interment took place in the Pelkie Cemetery. The family received friends at the church on Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. until time of the service. The Reid Funeral Service and Chapel, L’Anse has been entrusted with arrangements.
