NANCY P. TURUNEN's Obituary
NANCY P. TURUNEN, 71, of Arnheim passed away suddenly at Baraga County Memorial Hospital Tuesday, September 15, 2009. She was born in Pelkie on August 30, 1938 the daughter of the late Ralph E. and Helmi (Koski) Mattson. She attended school in Pelkie. Nancy married Ralph Turunen in Pelkie on July 16, 1955. She had worked at UP Plastics and then was employed at the Celotex Corp. until her retirement. Nancy also had worked as a receptionist at the Sirard Funeral Home. She was an avid Green Bay Packer fan. She had coached the girls hockey team. Nancy enjoyed camping, hunting, gardening and loved her pet dog “Skeeter”.
Mrs. Turunen is survived by her loving children, James (Lenore “Sue”) Turunen of L'Anse, John (Sue) Turunen of L'Anse and Robert “Bob” Turunen of Pelkie, grandchildren, Jeremy, Kris, Dan, Beth, and Matt, great-grandchild, Makayla,sisters, Patsy (Paul) Tussing of Chassell, and Priscilla (Paul) Monnette of Chassell. Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. She was preceded in death by her brother Jerry Mattson and grandson Brad Turunen.
Funeral services for Mrs. Turunen were held at 7 p.m. Friday, September 18, 2009 at the Reid Funeral Service and Chapel, L”Anse with Pastor John Autio officiating. Interment will take place in the Pelkie Cemetery. The family received friends at the funeral chapel on Friday from 6 p.m. until the time of the service.
