NORMAN C. GIDDINGS's Obituary
NORMAN C. GIDDINGS, 83, of Baraga passed away at his residence on August 26, 2010. He was born in L’Anse on December 18, 1926 the son of the late Norbert and Erma (Streeter) Giddings. Norman graduated from Baraga High School. He was a seaman 1st Class in the US Navy during WWII serving in the Pacific Theater of Operations. On June 13, 1953 he married the former Elizabeth L. “Betty” Pouquette. She preceded him in death on October 26, 2008. Norman had worked at Pettibone Corp. and then as a machinist at Selkey’s Manufacturing until his retirement. He was a member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church, Baraga and the Baraga American Legion Post 444. Norman loved fishing, and hunting and was a loyal Chicago Cubs and Red Wings fan plus other sports events.
Mr. Giddings is survived by his loving children, William (Cindy) Giddings of Baraga, Diane Woolford of Escanaba, Pat Chosa of Mohawk, Sandy (Rod) Haustein of Iron Mountain, and Beth Giddings of Menasha, WI., grandchildren, Shelly, Melissa, Amy, Todd, Angela, Ashley, Lucas, and Kristin, 15 great grandchildren, brother, Darrell Giddings of L’Anse and sister, Carol (Lloyd) Seavoy of Skanee. He was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Lou.
Funeral services for Mr. Giddings were held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 28, 2010 at the Reid Funeral Service and Chapel, L’Anse with Father John Longbucco officiating. The family greeted friends at the funeral chapel on Saturday from 9 a.m. until the time of the service. Baraga County area veterans, under the direction of the Baraga American Legion Post 444 conducted military honors at the funeral chapel at 10:30 a.m. Interment took place in the Baraga Cemetery. The family invited friends to join them for fellowship and a luncheon following the interment at St. Ann’s Catholic Church, Baraga.
