ORVILLE C. LONGRIE's Obituary
ORVILLE C. LONGRIE, 94, of Watton, passed away suddenly at his residence on Tuesday, April 14, 2009. He was born in Oconto Falls, WI. on June 19, 1914 the son of the late Charles and Evelyn (DeHut) Longrie. Orville moved to Sidnaw as a young boy. Orville married the former Elsie Salo on December 26, 1936. She preceded him in death on March 18, 1986. He worked at various jobs including CC Camps, and logging operations. Orville was employed by the Milwaukee Road Railroad, retiring in 1956 after 27 years. He was known as the town handyman and local mechanic. If there was a problem, Orville was the man to call to fix it. He also was the caretaker for a number of summer homes and hunting cabins in the area. Orville enjoyed hunting, fishing and four-wheeling with his friends. Watton had been his home for the last 13 years. He loved his grandchildren and visiting with people reminiscing about the good old days. He often said that the UP was the best place on earth to live. He was a member of the Apostolic Lutheran Church in Watton.
Mr. Longrie is survived by his loving children, Ron Longrie and his special friend, June Larkin of Sidnaw, Barbara (George) Kantola of Ishpeming, Beverly (Steve) Maki of Watton, grandchildren, Ronald, John, Julie, Kevin, Kenneth, Brian, Tammy, and Tim, great grandchildren, Collin, Jake, Kayla, Mitchell, Brenton, Raquell, Stephenie, Stephen, and Desiree, brother, Willard Longrie of Covington, sisters, Marion Stebbins of Sidnaw, and Patricia (Arnold) Townsend of Winston-Salem, NC, sister-in-law, Lucille Longrie of Covington. Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Darlene, sons Gerald, and David, grandson, James, brothers, Charles Jr., and Robert, and sisters, Helen, and Arlene.
Funeral services for Mr. Longrie were held at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 18, 2009 from the Watton Apostolic Lutheran Church with Pastor Jim Johnson officiating. Interment took place in the Sidnaw Cemetery. The family received friends at the church on Saturday from 12 noon until the time of the service.
