PAUL A. HEIKKINEN's Obituary
PAUL A. HEIKKINEN, 69, of Baraga, passed away, Thursday evening, July 21, 2011 at his home. He was born in Elo, MI. on February 28, 1942 the son of the late Axel and Edna (Nevala) Heikkinen. Paul attended school at J.A. Doelle in Tapiola and graduated from Garden City High School in 1960. He served in the US Army during the Vietnam Era. Paul was a self-employed carpet installer, retiring in 1994 as a result of being a Disabled American Veteran. He married the former Paulette Lytikainen in Hancock on May 1, 1967. Paul was a member of the Baraga Kingdom Hall of Jehovah Witnesses. He enjoyed working on cars, and his family fondly called him "Mr. Fix It". Paul loved spending time with hs grandchildren.
Mr. Heikkinen is survived by his loving wife Paulette, sons Scott P Heikkinen of Hancock, Steven (Jessica) Heikkinen and their children Charissa and Jordan Aliina of Newberry, daughters Melissa (Joseph) Wahlberg of Baraga and their children Megan and Lauren of Baraga, Diana (Heikkinen) Whiting of Houghton and her children Jared, and Lindsey of Houghton, brothers Norman, Wesley (Anita), Bruce (Helen), and Robert, sisters Helen Baakko, Lillian Kehus, Janet (Robert) Olson, Jean Lehto, Linda Wanhala, and Diane (Lee) Jurva. Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. He was preceded in death by his infant sister Carol.
A memorial service for Mr. Heikkinen was held at 12 noon on Saturday, July 30, 2011 at the Reid Funeral Service & Chapel in L'Anse with Michael Ehrensing officiating.
The family received friends 1 hour prior to services at the funeral chapel. Following the services the family invited friends to join them for fellowship and a luncheon in the Harrington Gathering Room, located at the funeral chapel.
