PAUL R. "PORKY" ROY's Obituary
PAUL R. “ PORKY” ROY, 76, of L’Anse, MI. passed away Sunday, September 25, 2011 at Baraga County Memorial Hospital, following a lengthy illness. He was born in L’Anse on January 22, 1935 the son of the late Albert and Nelda (Fountain) Roy. Porky attended L’Anse area schools. He served in the US Army from 1958 until 1960 Porky married the former Emmy Lou Sirard at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, L’Anse on September 10, 1960. He was employed as a supervisor at White Pine Mine until his retirement in 1996. Porky was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, and was a former member of the Sno Cat Snowmobile Club. Porky also enjoyed hunting, skiing, water sports, and watching NASCAR. He had coached little league and was known as a fix it up person.
Mr. Roy is survived by his loving wife Emmy Lou, and his pet dog “Sydney” He was preceded in death by 2 sisters and 5 brothers.
A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated at 11 am Wednesday, September 28, 2011 from Sacred Heart Catholic Church, L’Anse with Father Antony, celebrant. Interment will take place L’Anse Evergreen Cemetery. The family received friends on Tuesday, September 27, 2011 at the Reid Funeral Service and Chapel, L’Anse from 6 until 8 pm and at the church on Wednesday from 10 am until the time of the Mass. A parish prayer service was held Tuesday evening at the funeral chapel at 8 pm.
