Phyllis M. Boyer's Obituary
Phyllis M. Boyer, age 76 of L’Anse, MI passed away Tuesday, June 23, 2026 at her home following a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer with her loving family at her side. She was born July 16, 1949 the daughter of William and Julia (Elfbrandt) Maki at St Lukes Hospital in Marquette. Phyllis graduated from L’Anse High School in 1967 and married her high school sweetheart Donald Boyer in April 1970 and had 56 wonderful years together. She was previously employed at Larrys IGA, Superior National Bank, and western U.P. Health Department in her earlier days. Phyllis enjoyed working with the 4H Team Club, crossword puzzles, decorating, and feeding the birds and chipmunks.
Phyllis is survived by her loving husband Donald, daughter Kristi (Matthew) Vermeer of Grand Rapids, MI, grandchildren Hayleigh (Daniel) Hoeksema, Madissen (Matthew) Cousino, Chloe Vermeer and Ethan Vermeer all of Grand Rapids, and a special new great grandson born in January, Grayson Daniel Hoeksema, sister Kathleen (Tracy) Pennock of Camp Verde, AZ, nephews Ryan Pennock, Pat Duguay, Paul Dompier and Mark Dompier, niece Danae Barnett, and sister-in-law Karen Maki. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Clarence Maki, and sister Doris Dompier and brother-in-law Jim Dompier.

A celebration of life visitation will be held from 11 a.m. until 12 p.m. on Monday, July 6, 2026 at Reid Funeral Service and Chapel, L’Anse. Coffee and refreshments will be available. Immediately following the visitation, interment will take place in the L’Anse Evergreen Cemetery.
