PRISCILLA Z. TAHTINEN's Obituary
PRISCILLA Z. TAHTINEN, 86, of Baraga, MI. passed away Monday, December 19, 2005 at Baraga County Memorial Hospital where she had been a patient for 5 days. She was born in Baraga, MI. on November 13, 1919 daughter of the late Mose and Exilia (Sylvester) Bellaire, Sr. Priscilla graduated from Baraga High School in 1940. She married Edwin Tahtinen in Chassell, MI. on March 30, 1940. He preceded her in death on September 1, 2002. Priscilla and her late husband owned and operated the Hillside Service on M-38 until they retired in 1989. She was a member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church, Baraga and the Baraga County Community Action Board for many years. She was an avid quilter, loved to can and make pasties.
Mrs. Tahtinen is survived by her loving children, James (Mary) Tahtinen of Tampa, FL., Gerald (Nancy) Tahtinen of Eagle River, WI., Dale (Alice) Tahtinen of Baraga, Sally (Emery) Borgen of L’Anse, and Susie (Fred) Dempster of Naperville, IL., 9 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, sisters, June Allm of Lawton, Okalahoma, Norraine Kosturik of Auburn, Indiana, Jeannine Pelto of Baraga, and Marie Tahtinen of Troy, MI. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive. She was preceded in death by 1 sister and 7 brothers.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 22, 2005 at St. Ann’s Catholic Church, Baraga with Father Augustin George, Celebrant. Family members served as casket escorts. Spring interment will take place in the Baraga Cemetery. The family received friends on Wednesday, December 21, 2005 from 6 until 8 p.m. at the Reid Funeral Service and Chapel, L’Anse and for 1 hour prior to the Mass at church on Thursday. A parish prayer service was held Wednesday evening in the funeral chapel at 7 p.m. The Reid Funeral Service and Chapel, L’Anse has been entrusted with arrangements.
