RAYMOND J. HEINONEN's Obituary
RAYMOND J. HEINONEN, 91, of Baraga, MI. passed away Thursday, December 8, 2005 at Jacobetti Home for Veterans in Marquette following a lengthy illness. He was born in Baraga, MI. on June 10, 1914 son of the late Otto and Marie (Toumala) Heinonen. Raymond attended school in Detroit. He served in the US Army during WWII in the European African Theater and was awarded the Bronze Battle Star. Raymond married the former Helen Sandelin in Chicago, IL. She preceded him in death. He was employed by Baraga Township as a bus driver and janitor until his retirement. Raymond also owned and drove his own school bus in Pelkie and ran the family farm in Baraga. Raymond was a member of the Pelkie Apostolic Lutheran Church and a life member of the Alston VFW Post #7646. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Mr. Heinonen is survived by his brother, Clarence Heinonen of Baraga. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive. He was preceded in death by 2 sisters and 2 brothers.
Funeral services for Mr. Heinonen were held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 13, 2005 at the Reid Funeral Service and Chapel with Judy Mattson officiating. Spring interment and military rites will take place in the Pelkie Cemetery. The family received friends on Monday, December 12, 2005 from 6 until 8 p.m. at the Reid Funeral Service and Chapel, and for 1 hour prior to the service on Tuesday. The Reid Funeral Service and Chapel, L’Anse has been entrusted with arrangements.
