Richard L. "Woody" Wood's Obituary
Richard L. “Woody” Wood, age 63 of L’Anse, MI passed away peacefully Wednesday, April 29, 2026 with loved ones and his loyal canine companion, Mongo, by his side. He was born in L’Anse on May 24, 1962, son of the late Richard B. and Louella M. (Knapp) Wood.
Woody graduated from Lawrence High School. Throughout his life he worked as a builder, at times self-employed, and a logger.
Woody was a member of the Keweenaw Bay Indian Community and Baraga Co. Pool League. He found great joy in nature, spending countless hours fishing, hunting, trapping, gold prospecting, and riding in the woods. Woody was a talented carpenter and an avid Detroit Lions fan.
Woody is survived by his loving children Heather Wood (Aaron Paquet) of L’Anse, Landis (Lisa) Wood of Huntersville, NC, Blaine Wood (Terra Sweeney) of L’Anse, and Michelle Wood (Noah Stout) of Arvada, CO; grandchildren Georgia, Theodore, Lochlan, Jackson, Lexy, and Stella; great friends; brother James Wood; Sabrinah Wood; former wives Tina Owens and mother to his children Linda Wood; and numerous other family members. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Ruthie Knapp, and beloved dog Angus.
Interment will take place in the Pinery Cemetery, L'Anse at 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 13, 2026 followed by a celebration of life with a potluck luncheon and music at the Baraga American Legion Post #444 from 3 p.m. until 7 p.m.
Woody will be remembered fondly for his vibrant personality and love for the great-outdoors.
