ROBERT W. "BOB" TOLONEN, SR.'s Obituary
Robert W. “Bob” Tolonen, Sr., age 77, of Pelkie, passed away Wednesday, October 1, 2014 at Baraga County Memorial Hospital, L’Anse following a lengthy illness. He was born in Alston, MI on September 29, 1937, the son of the late William and Martha (Niemi) Tolonen. Bob graduated from Baraga High School. He was a self-employed contractor and logger in the area for many years. Bob and Janet just celebrated their 52nd wedding anniversary. He was a member of Mission United Lutheran, Pelkie, and the South Range Eagles. Bob enjoyed music, camping, hunting and fishing
Mr. Tolonen is survived by his loving wife Janet, children Robert W. Tolonen Jr of Alston and Lisa (Mark) Thompson of Lower Michigan, grandchildren Jonathon, Greggory, Ashley and Brandon, sisters LaVerne (Wayne) Knott of St. Paul, Minnesota and Charlotte (Nathan) Schoon of Lakeland, Florida. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Earnest and his sister Ellen.
Funeral services for Mr. Tolonen were held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 4, 2014 at Mission United Lutheran Church, Pelkie with Pastor John Autio officiating. The family received friends at the church on Friday, October 3, 2014 from 5 until 7 p.m. and on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. A luncheon was held at the church on Saturday following the funeral service. Interment took place in the Nisula Cemetery.
