Robert E. "Edward" Mills' Obituary
Robert “Edward” Mills, 84 passed away March 29, 2020, at Bayside Village Nursing Home after a long illness with Parkinson's Disease.
Ed leaves behind a sister Nancy Carlen, a brother John (Linda) Mills, sister in law Adele (Felo) Reyes, three daughters Deb (Tim) McElmurry, Brenda (Greg) Hentsch, Kim (Jim) Fedie, grandchildren Ashley and Scott McElmurry, Joe, Greg, Jake and Brian Fedie.
Proceeding him in death was his love of 49 years Eileen, parents Albert and Mary, brother-in-law Warren Carlen.
He always had a passion for gardening at a young age which he enjoyed throughout his life.
He was a wood model maker in his 20’s, with much of his work being commissioned by the auto industry. His greatest accomplishment in this trade was making a cherry wood steering wheel that was displayed in a car at the 1964 World's Fair in New York City.
He liked to hunt and fish in the U.P. and also out west with his Dad, brother and brother-in-law where they had many laughs and stories to share from their adventures.
In 1968 he moved his family to the Maki Farm (Camp 6) on Point Abbey. He took much enjoyment and pride out of the animals, crops, and large vegetable garden he produced over the years.
He worked in the woods as a sawyer the first few years in Aura, before joining the REA as a lineman and worked along with his brother until his retirement.
Eileen and Ed had a greenhouse business and sold plants to other passionate gardeners.
Ed volunteered many years for the Aura Jamboree, Town Hall and Fire Hall.
He traveled out west to the Badlands and Alaska, but he always thought that the most beautiful place was the one he had in Aura.
There will be a graveside service for family in the spring.
