ROBERT M. KEMPPAINEN's Obituary
ROBERT M. KEMPPAINEN, 70, of L’Anse, MI., passed away at his residence Saturday, July 16, 2005, following a period of declining health. Bob was born in Watton, Michigan on July 17, 1934 to the late John and Linda (Ryti) Kemppainen. He attended Watton School until moving to L’Anse. Robert served in the U.S. Army from 1955 until 1957. He married the former Patricia Connor in L’Anse in 1953. She preceded him in death in 1985. Bob was employed in the maintenance department of the Celotex Company until his retirement in 1998. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, photography, reading and going for rides around the area. He was a former member of the L’Anse Eagles Aerie Post 2287.
Mr. Kemppainen is survived by his loving children Robert John (Dawn) Kemppainen of L’Anse, Ronald Kemppainen of Marquette, Patti (Bill) Tembreull of Pelkie, Mary Grondin of L’Anse, Kathy (Chuck) Cavanaugh of L’Anse, and Becky (Pat) Smith also of L’Anse. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Sisters Gertrude, Helen, Martha, Marion and brothers John, Edwin, and Charlie preceded him in death.
Funeral services for Mr. Kemppainen were held Thursday, July 21, 2005 at 11 a.m. from the Reid Funeral Service and Chapel, L’Anse with Rev. Scott Williams officiating. Interment took place in the L’Anse Evergreen Cemetery. The family received friends on Wednesday, July 20, 2005, at the Reid Funeral Service and Chapel from 6 until 8 p.m. and for 1 hour prior to the service on Thursday. Baraga County area veterans, under the direction of the American Legion Post 444, Baraga presented a military honors service at 6:30 pm. on Wednesday in the funeral chapel.
Following the graveside services on Thursday, the family invited friends to join them for a luncheon and fellowship in the Harrington Gathering Room, located at the funeral chapel.
