RONALD E. KOVALA's Obituary
RONALD E. KOVALA, 88, of Skanee, passed away Thursday April 14, 2011 at Baraga County Memorial Hospital, L’Anse. Ron was born June 19, 1922 in Trimountain, MI the son of the late Henry and Tynne (Salo) Kovala. Ron attended school in Watton. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII, and was involved in the landing at Normandy, France. He received many decorations for his service. On June 20, 1952, he married the former Ethel Erickson in Detroit, MI. Ron was employed as a heavy equipment operator for the U.S. Government and retired from the former K. I. Sawyer Air Force Base. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Skanee, the Masons, VFW Post 8945 in Covington, Amvets, and the DAV. Ron was a fireman for the Arvon Township Fire Dept. He was an excellent carpenter, enjoyed fishing and hunting, making firewood, gardening, the casino, and driving his tractor
Ron is survived by his loving wife Ethel, son Ronald J (Marge) Kovala of Quinnesec, MI., grandchildren; Tyler, Jennifer, Chad, and Shelby, great-grandchildren, Aaron, Brianna, Kaya, Jacob, Jonathon, and Wyler. Numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive. He was preceded in death by 3 sisters and 4 brothers.
A memorial funeral service for Mr. Kovala was held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, April 19, 2011 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Skanee, MI. with Pastor Judy Mattson officiating. Interment will take place in the Skanee Cemetery. The family received friends at the church on Tuesday from 10 am until the time of the service. A Masonic Order service was held at 10:15 a.m., followed by a veteran’s service under the direction of the Baraga American Legion Post 444. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Zion Lutheran Church.
