Roy T Godell's Obituary
Roy T. Godell, age 81, of Marquette and formerly of Covington and L’Anse, passed away Tuesday, December 27, 2016 at D J Jacobetti Home for Veterans in Marquette with his family by his side. Roy was born in Negaunee, MI on May 3, 1935 the son of the late Thomas and Mildred (Tumberg) Godell. He was raised in the Watton and Covington area and graduated from L’Anse High School in 1953. Roy drove gas truck for the Texaco Gas Station in Covington before serving in the US Army. He was then employed by Baraga County Road Commission, retiring because of ill health. Roy was a member of the L’Anse Baptist Church, Covington Amvets, Covington Lions and the Covington Fire Department. He had coached little league and umpired, was an avid sportsman and enjoyed watching the Tigers and Lions.
Roy is survived by his loving family, brother Marvin (Iline) Godell of Hamilton, IL, sisters Karen (Ken) Kristo of L’Anse, Joyce (Robert) Garcia of Lillian, Alabama and Helen (Joe) Robillard of L’Anse. Numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and his uncle Robert Godell of Covington also survive. He was preceded in death by his nephew Michael, grandnephew Trevor and grandniece Kelsey.
Funeral services for Roy were held at 1 pm on Friday, December 30, 2016 at the L’Anse Baptist Church with Pastor Jerry Bishop officiating. The family greeted friends at the church on Friday from 11 am until the time of the service. A luncheon was held at the church immediately following the funeral service.
Spring interment and military honors will take place in the Covington Cemetery.
