Roy A. Norman Sr.'s Obituary
Roy A. Norman, Sr., age 88 of Watton, MI passed away Wednesday, March 13, 2024 at Marshfield Medical Center-Dickinson in Iron Mountain, MI. He was born on August 23, 1935 the son of the late Alfred and Ilmi (Hakkarainen) Norman. Roy attended school in Watton and Covington. He had been employed at UP Oil and had managed Covington Oil Station. Roy was proud to say he had worked for 62 years straight. He served 2 terms in the United States Navy. Roy married the former Mary Frayer in Land O’ Lakes, WI on July 28, 1956. He was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church, Covington and the Covington VFW Post #8945 and a lifetime member of L’Anse American Legion Post #144. Roy enjoyed hunting, fishing, and working on and repairing cars.
Roy is survived by his loving wife Mary of Watton, son Roy A. Norman, Jr of Watton, daughters Carol Jean (Forrest) Brady of Ironwood, MI, Tina Marie Blanchard of Eagle River, WI, Lora Savela of Lake Linden, MI, and Mildred Norton of Rhinelander, WI., numerous grandchildren, several great grandchildren, nieces Linda (Jim) Dougovito, and Lois Ahola, nephews Howard (Judi) Ahola, Alden (Laurie) Ahola, and Karl Ahola. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Lillian Ahola, and nephew Robert Ahola.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, March 20, 2024 at Bethany Lutheran Church, Covington, MI with Pastor Richard Little officiating. The family will receive friends at the church on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Immediately following the funeral service, the family invites friends to join them for fellowship and a luncheon in the church hall.
Military honors and graveside services for Roy will be held at 11 a.m,. Friday, May 10, 2024 in the Covington Cemetery, Covington, MI.
