RUSSELL A. JACOBSON's Obituary
RUSSELL A. JACOBSON, 66, of Watton, MI. passed away Tuesday, January 24, 2012 at Baraga County Memorial Hospital where he had been a patient. He was born in Watton, MI on April 9, 1945 the son of the late John J. and Hilma (Rajala) Jacobson. Russell attended school in the Covington and Watton area. He served in the US Navy during the Vietnam War. Russell was assigned to the aircraft carrier USS Forrestal. He was a computer operator for Cleveland Cliffs for over 30 years. Russell was a lifetime member of the Covington VFW Post #8945. He was a sawyer and enjoyed carpentering, hunting, fishing, and going to hunting camp, “Camp S’pose”
Mr. Jacobson is survived by his brother Robert (Jannet) Jacobson of Watton, nieces and nephews Shirley, Donald (Margo), Daniel, Duane (Barbara), Wesley, Clayton (Sue), Jerry, and special niece Carol (Forrest) Brady. He was preceded in death by 2 brothers and 1 sister.
Funeral services for Mr. Jacobson was held at 1 p.m. Monday, January 30, 2012 at the Reid Funeral Service and Chapel with Pastor Peter Suomela officiating. Spring interment will take place in the Covington Cemetery. The family received friends at the funeral chapel on Monday from 11 a.m. until the time of the service. Baraga County area veterans, under the direction of the Baraga American Legion Post #444 conducted military honors at the funeral chapel on Monday at 11:30 a.m. Following the funeral service, the family invited friends to join them for fellowship and a luncheon at the Covington VFW Post #8945.
